  About Epiffany Inc

Mission Statement | Vision | Code of Ethics | Credo | Oath | Career Opportunities | Charities | Associations | Scholarships

Epiffany, Inc. began operations in Denver at the start of the new millennium. Charles M. Schmidt; the founder, saw a tremendous need for professional and courteous service within the legal community (see Mission Statement). Our Latin slogan, Beneficium ab Honos abs Integritas, is exactly what we are all about, "Service with Honor and Integrity".

Mr. Schmidt had previously attended college under a duel Bachelor degree program and studied business and also took some applicable courses in law. After re-locating to Denver he decided with the education learned, the present need within the judicial system and legal community, plus the state statutes requiring these court services to be performed by either a process server or sheriff’s office, that there was indeed a market and that it needed quality professional services.

He then began studying the legal system within Colorado, and all facets of it, and in depth. He found his answers concerning law and procedures as well as communicating with law enforcement and legal communities to find out just what was missing.

Charles began serving process part-time locally to learn the ropes of actual service, requirements, and all statutes that applied. One thing he noticed within the legal community was the disrespectful attitude a lot of process servers and their companies had and how they were treating their clients and those to be served.

Mr. Schmidt being armed with this new found knowledge determined that the legal community and judicial system deserved better, they earned it and deserve it (see Vision). Mr. Schmidt being a prior military veteran (honorably discharged), and very patriotic and proud to have served, saw there was a tremendous lack of respect and trust within the systems. Charles operates his business agents more intensely than even the government does with the military.

According to him it’s all a matter of honor; refusing to perform your duties or doing them sloppily is tantamount to dereliction of duty and negligent in nature. If a judge had a mind to, he added, “they could charge the agent with contempt of court for failing to perform a court order, that’s pretty serious.”

He began his business with this in mind and addressed the fact that the law is the law, pay some respect to it (see Credo). Charles then began building a clientele base focused on respect, trust and integrity that most of the other companies had lost sight of, if they ever had it at all. With these principles it offers us the distinctive competitive advantage.

Mr. Schmidt says, “most businesses have lost sight of a main fundamental part of success; most all apply business models and focus on growth, revenue, and net income; I prefer to focus on absolute guaranteed quality with a heaping helping of integrity, trust, exceptional personal customer service, and with a dash of respect and dignity. That is a good recipe for continued growth and success, the financial portion will come automatically.” We gain our clients by persistence and keep them due to our integrity.

Over the next few years, Mr. Schmidt developed a sound business model with the root of his operation being efficient, expeditious and respectful services. This has caused his company to thrive and grow at more than a normal and usual growth rate. To this day Mr. Schmidt personally goes to all new clients and introduces himself and the company. As he puts it, “we have the integrity and image, now we must put a name and face with it.”

Since operations began many companies have come along trying to emulate his companies philosophies, policies, and procedures. They all have one thing in common, they missed the target all together. Though some are still in operation, none have matched or surpassed the superior quality, honor and trust Mr. Schmidt demands from his agents and freely gives to all persons.

Epiffany’s agents are hand picked (see Employment Application) and personally trained in all aspects of civil rules of procedures. Mr. Schmidt wants all of his agents to perform professionally (see Agents Oath) without a condescending or judgmental attitude. In his words, “we are simply the messenger, for whatever reasons they are in their situation, we are not their judge nor jury.” Charles teaches his agents and re-teaches throughout their tenure with the company, to hone their skills, and to help them pick up new techniques.

Mr. Schmidt, being ex-military, has the highest respect for the legal system and judicial process. According to him and his beliefs, “without honor and integrity, you’re nothing more than a frog in the pond.” He firmly instills his beliefs to his agents to perform likewise. This only helped his company to grow faster than normal and gain the trust and respect within the legal communities. He added, “honor and integrity are commodities you can’t buy, they are earned and are priceless.”

Over the years many individuals; leaders of business, heads of state, law enforcement, legal community, judicial system, and even those they had served have thanked them for their professional conduct that Mr. Schmidt so strongly believes in.

When asked, Mr. Schmidt responded, “I have examined many legal systems all over the world; none are perfect, but ours is by far the best. Does it need constant grooming? Yes, but that is probably why it is so efficient and fair.”

Charles teaches that a true successful process server must know a lot about people; psychology, physiology, mannerisms “what makes a person tick?” along with knowledge of law and procedures are a must. You don’t have to go to school to learn this, just pay attention and be observant. Mr. Schmidt adds, “what would you be doing if you were them right now?”

If you treat someone with respect and a little dignity, they most likely will treat you the same. Mr. Schmidt adds, “Do your job, do it well, and do it with pride.” This industry needs people that are devoted and who will remain loyal to the courts. The courts, judges, and legal community admire that kind of determination. It’s these personal attributes that drive Mr. Schmidt, who also expects this from his staff.

As Mr. Schmidt says, “professional process serving is an art, it borders on an exact science.” If you want someone served think like they think, go where they would normally be at that time, be creative, cunning, and always adapt immediately to the present situation. You will catch more with kindness and respect than with tenacity and judgmental attitudes.

As a direct end result of Mr. Schmidt’s philosophies his company has excelled and grown to be a national competitor and extremely successful. The company has developed to the point that it now plays a part in supporting charities (see Charities), supporting associations (see Associations), and even provides scholarships (see Scholarships). Epiffany now has over 1,000 permanent clients over 48 states. They now offer services locally, nationally, and internationally.

Charles believes, that the community cried out with such a loud cry to be heard, he said, “I merely answered the call.” As a benefit of the community running to us for assistance, now we have the opportunity to return to the community in a different and more personal way, by supporting it.

Mr. Schmidt says, “it’s not about a business and I didn’t do it all by myself, it has everything to do with giving them what they always wanted and deserved.” This company was formed by me, built by our staff, and grew because of our clients. I never wanted anything but just respect. He added, “you just can’t buy respect, but it is definitely a commodity worth having, once obtained then truly you are a very wealthy person.”

Community Support and Involvement

Epiffany is driven to become more involved with the legal process. In the near future they plan on addressing matters of concern within their chosen profession to be presented by lobbying their state legislation and help to assist in drafting petitions.

The company’s goal is to help form a more equitable framework for the process service industry as a whole. Understandably this will take time and devotion to the cause, to which Epiffany is willing to contribute.

Epiffany is planning on seeking part in the process of the rules committee in order to help assist in defining and addressing problems with current statutes. Some of the more important and prominent problems are the lack of court backing of the process server when they are in need.
